It will now be easier for residents of Middletown Township to take an active role in the fight against the nationwide opiate and heroin abuse epidemic, often fueled by prescription painkiller abuse.

"Project Medicine Drop Box is located at 1 Kings Highway. Residents may visit the Middletown Police Department at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to dispose of their unused or excess medications. It's imperative that we offer our residents the convenience of accessing this drop box at any time," said Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger. "I commend Chief Weber for continuing our commitment to public service and safety.

Project Medicine Drop is an important component of the New Jersey Attorney General's effort to stop the diversion and abuse of prescription drugs, including highly addictive opiate painkillers.
