HOLMDEL — A Middletown mom who was driving her 4-year-old daughter was charged with DWI after rear-ending a car on Route 35.

Brandy Haines, 36, pulled into the parking lot of the Holmdel Town Center on Route 35 late Monday afternoon after the crash, according to Holmdel police. Patrolman Joe Van Pelt arrested her after he said he noticed that her speech was slurred to the point of not being understood. Her behavior was described as "erratic."

The child was not injured and was released to her father's custody.

Haines was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI with a minor passenger, endangering the welfare of a child, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving. She was being held at the Monmouth County Jail.
