Mothers Against Drunk Driving New Jersey and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety recognized police officers Wednesday throughout New Jersey for their efforts in helping to prevent car crashes through DWI enforcement.

Manchester Township Police Department can smile big this week as one of their own, Michael Guarino was recognized for his DWI enforcement field work.

Nearly 500 law enforcement officers across the state were in attendance for the ceremony this week at Rutgers University.

Guarino who is a five year veteran of the Manchester Police Department, led the agency in DWI arrests in 2016 with a total of nine.

Other accolades includes being a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) who accomplished 29 evaluations last year, and has been apart of a number of high visibility DWI enforcement campaigns over the past year including DWI grant operations and checkpoints.

As a certified Drug Recognition Expert, Guarino received extensive academic and practical training in the evaluation of drivers who are suspected of driving while under the influence of drugs, commonly known as "drugged-driving."

Guarino is also a part of the Ocean County DRE program where he has been called to assist other agencies in the County to evaluate drivers suspected of "drugged-driving."

He received the Kimberly-Ames DWI Certificate of Recognition in 2014 for his commitment to enforcing DWI laws and keeping everyone safe.
