MARLBORO — A young man walking on Route 9 was killed in a car crash Wednesday night.

The crash near a signalized U-turn approaching Covered Bridge Road on the Manalapan/Marlboro border happened around 10:15 p.m,  according to Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office's spokesman Chris Swendeman.

The man struck the driver's side of a 2001 Dodge Interpid and was thrown over the vehicle, hitting the hood and windshield before landing in the right lane. He was declared deceased at the scene, according to Swendeman, and police are trying to make an identification.

Swendeman said it's not clear if he was crossing the road.

The driver, Alisa Berkman, 56, of Manalapan, remained at the scene and was co-operative with police. Swendeman said she was not injured and has not been charged.

Marlboro police and the Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident and asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at 732-536-0100 or 732-431-7160.
