FLEMINGTON — A senior Labrador retriever is much improved a day after being found on an icy puddle in Hunterdon County.

Dr. Chad Tindall of the Voorhees Corner Vet in Flemington said the dog, estimated to be 9 or 10 years old, could not walk when he was found Wednesday by passersby on a puddle along Lilac Road near Schoolhouse Road in Clinton Township.

"He's up walking around today, he's looking good. We're sending blood work out on him," Tindall said. "He's getting around; eating, drinking, walking and everything's looking good."

The owner of the dog has not yet come forward, according to Tindall, who said there's been an "outpouring" of people who are interested in him when his hold is up.

"He's a geriatric dog. He has some hind leg issues, some hip issues and my guess is that he down when it was slippery on the ice and couldn't get up and just wore himself out," Tindall said, adding that he is taking some pain medications.

Anyone who knows the owner of the dog should call Animal Control Solutions of Flemington at 908-310-1452.
