It may have started off a bit gloomy but Memorial Day weekend would produce two spectacular days that helped get the unofficial start of summer off to a great start.

Sunday and Monday were about as perfect as you could get in terms of weather with sunny skies, warm temperatures and low humidity and people from all over flocked to beaches along the Jersey Shore.

It produced a much needed shot in the arm for businesses that depend on tourism dollars and hopefully it will be a sign of things to come.

I have to tell you there is something truly special about a 3-day weekend which many of us got to enjoy.  It’s as much mental as anything else as they extra day off just allows you to kick back much more then you would do on a regular weekend.

Usually on Sunday afternoon your mind is already getting prepared for work on Monday but not this past weekend because Sunday was really like a Saturday and the bonus for many of us is that now we’re facing a shortened work week.  Yes the 3-day weekend is a very nice thing. I wonder if I can work that into my next contract?

If you know me then you know much I love the beach so it would be logical to assume that the warm weather resulted in my debut on the North Avenue beach in Seaside Park.  It did, sort of.  I did take a ride over after an early morning workout at the gym and checked out the beach which looked great.  However I opted to sit outside at home over the weekend and get that first “burn” of the season as hopefully there will be plenty of time for the beach when my feet are not so pale.

An unrelated note:

It was nice to see so many American flags on display just about everywhere over the weekend.  Speaking of which the movie “Flags of Our Fathers” was on several times this weekend and even though I’ve seen it before I watched it again last night.  It’s based on a book written about the six men who raised the flag at Iwo Jima during World War II and written by the son of one of the six.  The movie is good, the book is one of the best I’ve ever read and if you have not I highly recommend it.
