Lakewood bicyclist succumbs to fatal wounds from Monday collision with car
A Lakewood man suffers fatal wounds after being hit by a car while riding his bike on Monday afternoon between Route 70 and Buckingham Drive in the township.
Police responded to the scene around 3:20 pm Monday and began their investigation.
A 38-year old Toms River woman told police she was heading east in her 2014 Kia on 70 when the 61-year old man rode past a red traffic light and into her direct path as she approached the intersection.
The Lakewood man suffered major injuries that turned fatal.
No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
Rt. 70 eastbound was shut down for almost three hours while investigators were on scene.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the collision to call Traffic Safety Officer David Silberstein or Detective Chase Messer at 732-363-0200.
