Public Information Officer Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith said officers from Lakewood and Jackson flooded the area believing that the suspect who made off with a little over $2,000, was still nearby on foot.

A detective responding to a "hold up" alarm at around 2:15 p.m. spotted the suspect matching the description of a tall white male, wearing glasses, a gray sweatshirt and a black baseball style hat, walking on County Line Road near Heathwood Avenue. The detective said when he identified himself as a police officer, the suspect, later identified as Donald Van Arsdale of Jackson, discarded the bank proceeds and personal belongings and attempted to run.

Staffordsmith said the detective and two other officers apprehended Van Arsdale two blocks away. All of the bank proceeds and evidence left behind were recovered by Ocean County CIU.

Following an investigation by the FBI as well as Detectives from Lakewood, Jackson and Brick, Van Arsdale is charged with first degree robbery, terroristic threats and resisting arrest. His bail is set at $80,000 no 10% option.  He's also charged with the first degree robbery of a TD Bank in Lakewood on February 22nd. Bail in that robbery is set at $50,000 no 10% option. He's in the Ocean County Jail.
