KEANSBURG — A police officer who tried unsuccessfully to keep a young girl from fleeing a fight with her mother was hit by a car door and pinned between two vehicles.

The girl was arrested later in the day driving down a dead-end street.

The incident happened late on July 8 when police responded to the scene finding the girl's mother holding her to the ground. The mother told police the girl would not come home and she had been chasing her through the borough.

While police were on scene, the girl, whose age was not release by police, ran to her aunt's car and drove away, despite the officer's efforts.

Police pursued the girl north on Route 36 and onto Route 35 before abandoning the chase.

Police said the girl was located a short time later by police in South Amboy. She was taken to Keansburg Police headquarters and charged with several criminal and motor vehicle offenses.

The officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was released after being treated for minor injuries.
