Holbrook cruised to the win thanks in large part to two big innings. The New Jersey squad had two big innings, starting with five runs scored in the second inning, and an even bigger nine-run fourth inning to invoke the mercy rule.

The big inning for Mid-Atlantic came thanks to two home run by Chris Cartnick, a single by Charlie Meglio, and a double by Ryan Kinsman.

Chris Andrews got the win for Holbrook, throwing just 40 pitches over the four inning contest.

"I spoke with manager Rob Grano Friday, and he really felt that all this team needed was one win and they would get on a roll and I would say today they got the win they needed," said Kevin Williams of the Shore Sports Network.

"While their task is not an easy one there's no question they can play with anyone here and build some momentum to make a deep run," Williams said.

Williams, who covered the 1998 Toms River East journey to Williamsport, had praise for slugger Chris Cartnick

"He is as good a 12-year-old I have ever seen and that includes the guy from Toms River who now plays for the Yankees," Williams said, referring to Todd Frazier, a members of the "Beast of the East."

Holbrook plays again on Monday afternoon against either a team from the Southeast or West who play each other on Sunday.
