If you listen with any regularity you likely know I am a fan — a long-suffering fan — of the New York Mets.  You also likely know that I’m a fan of Todd Frazier so his signing with my favorite team in the off-season was pretty much a dream come true.

What you might not know is my history of watching Todd play in person is not a good one.

The Toms River native made his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds on May 23, 2011 against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.  He was just called up from the minor leagues that day and struck out in his first at-bat as a pinch hitter.

Having a connection with the Phillies through the Lakewood BlueClaws I got four tickets for the next night and we were driving to the game when we learned that Frazier had been sent back down to the minors and had already left Philadelphia.

Needless to say we had little interest in the game and were very disappointed.

My next chance to see him play in person would come the following June when the Reds were in New York to play the Mets.  On a Sunday afternoon we made the trip to CitiField only to learn that Todd was given the day off.  We did manage to connect with him after the game in front of the visitor’s clubhouse but again not seeing him play was disappointing.

I did finally get to see him play in person on June 2, 2015 when the Reds were once again in Philadelphia.  Frazier went 0-5 and committed two errors further cementing the fact that I was a jinx.

I mention this because I have tickets to see the Mets play the Phillies Friday night at Citizens Bank Park with my wife and daughter and we were really excited about seeing Todd in a Mets uniform.

So when I learned late Tuesday that the Mets had placed him on the 10-day disabled list with a hamstring  injury and he would not be playing Friday I guess it should not have come as a total surprise.

I texted his father Charlie who responded with “I feel bad for you Kevin.”

Not as bad as I feel Charlie.
