Murray Dychtwald (best known as Chef Murray) and his wife Barbara were saluted as Citizens of the Year for all they have done in support of the Ocean County Vocational-Technical Schools and for their efforts to feed those impacted and devastated immediately following Superstorm Sandy.

That October 29th event and its aftermath was the theme of this year’s awards program as honored as Organizations of the Year were the Ocean County Fire Chief’s Association and us at Townsquare Media.  Of course volunteer fire fighters were front and center during rescue and recovery efforts before, during and after Sandy and many gave countless hours on the front line while their own homes were being damaged and destroyed.

Several local coaches will be saluted on Sunday when the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association holds their annual Hall of Fame Awards Program at the Pines Manor in Edison.   Point Pleasant Boro boys basketball coach Kevin Hynes is one of two Ocean County coaches being inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Hynes has built a solid program at the Boro over the last decade where the Panthers annually contend for division titles.

The other new Hall of Famer is Brick Township girls bowling Coach Cara Lukosius, whose Green Dragons had a remarkable winter in which they won numerous championships including the Shore Conference Tournament and South Jersey Group 3 title.

A pair of coaches at Jackson Memorial High School are being honored Sunday for earning recognition by the National Federation Coaches Association.  They are girls basketball coach Rachel Goodale and boys bowling coach Anthony Buczynski.

Sunday’s event is being run in cooperation with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association and is sponsored by Bank of America.
