Bail is set at $20,000 for the driver of a pickup that slammed into the rear of a small car that had broken down, killing two people in a fiery wreck on Interstate 80 in Lodi.

State Police Sgt. Brian Polite says 29-year-old Vinicio Acosta of Bogota  is charged with causing death while driving on a suspended license. He was not injured in the wreck.

Polite says the driver of the Honda Civic, 23-year-old Esmanuel Perez of Passaic and a unidentified rear passenger were pronounced dead on the scene. Another passenger, 28-year-old Juan Torres of Passaic, is in critical condition.

Police are trying to determine why the Honda broke down.
