It is nearly six months since Superstorm Sandy landed a haymaker to much of the Jersey Shore and we are less than six weeks from Memorial Day weekend which is the unofficial start of the summer tourism season.

Weather permitting that is also the weekend when most area beaches open with lifeguards and beach attendants on duty although for some the start of the season will likely be delayed.  Sandy certainly left her mark and not just on the beaches and surrounding boardwalks.  Several area Beach Patrols suffered major losses from damage or destruction of their headquarters to loss of equipment.

To aid the recovery effort the Tuscan Bistro & Bar of Toms River will partner with Hometown Heroes this Sunday and host a benefit for the Beach Patrols of Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Lavallette and Ortley Beach.  Dubbed One Night Stand the Saving Our Lifeguards fundraiser will assist the four area beach patrols who all suffered significant losses during the storm.

Sunday’s event begins at 6pm and tickets are $25 which includes appetizers, hot and cold food stations, entertainment and much more.  Tickets can be purchased at Tuscan Bistro & Bar on Hooper Avenue in Toms River.  You’ll see rowboats from the four area beach patrols in front of the restaurant.
