While scattered raindrops are possible on any given day through the holiday weekend, such showers will be the exception, not the rule.

I thoroughly enjoyed the blue skies, low humidity, and pleasant temperatures Wednesday, and I hope you did too! Our forecast will trend toward more humid, more settled, and warmer (well, hotter) weather in the coming days.

It's quite comfortable Thursday morning, with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. That's because our atmosphere remains fairly dry, for now. I think it's safe to say this will be New Jersey's coolest morning for some time to come.

Dew points will climb through the 50s and 60s through Thursday afternoon. Not oppressive, but noticeable. Meanwhile, temperatures will warm into the mid 80s for most of the Garden State. The cool spot will be the Jersey Shore, as a mostly southerly wind blows cooler ocean air over the beaches (especially on barrier islands).

I'm forecasting a mix of sun and clouds for Thursday - in other words, sometimes it will be mostly sunny, sometimes it will be mostly cloudy. Also keeping the forecast dry, even though models have persistently put a blip (a.k.a. a shower) over northern New Jersey.

By Thursday night, you'll definitely feel the stickiness in the air. By Friday morning, low temperatures only fall to around the 70 degree mark.

Friday is definitely going to be hot and humid, with some good sunshine and fair-weather clouds along the way. An isolated shower or thunderstorm will be possible on Friday — best chance will be late-day in North Jersey.

I'm still not completely confident about what's to come weather wise for the holiday weekend, but I'll piece together my current thinking. The bottom line remains the same: Be prepared for summertime heat and humidity and keep your plans flexible in case a spot shower or thunderstorm rains on your parade (or fireworks, BBQ, etc.)

The best chance for rain in this entire forecast will occur late Saturday through early Sunday, but that's not saying much. Rainfall will be scattered and forecast rainfall totals are all below a half-inch.

Skies on Saturday will range from partly to mostly cloudy. That will keep temps a little bit cooler than Friday, in the lower to mid 80s. Don't expect much relief though, as it's going to remain very humid all weekend.

Sunday's high temperatures once again soar to near 90 degrees, despite abundant cloudiness.

Monday looks mostly sunny, with highs in the mid 80s. Tuesday, the 4th of July, actually looks pretty good, with more sunshine, mid 80s, and minimal rain chances.
