Truth be told the football season ended a couple of weeks ago because what is taking place Sunday in Houston is not really a football game. The Super Bowl has become for the most part a national holiday that does not come with a day off unless you are among the 16 million or so expected to call out sick next Monday.

Of course if you work for the Heinz Company you have the day off. They are actually launching a campaign to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday.  I truly believe at some point the NFL season will be extended so the Super Bowl is played the day before Presidents Day which is a national holiday and will settle that issue.

Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest eating day of the year behind only Thanksgiving.  Nearly 1.3 billion chicken wings will be consumed with 57% using ranch dressing and another 35% going with bleu cheese although that number jumps to 50% in our part of the country. In addition we will eat 11 million pounds of potato chips, 4 million pounds of pretzels and use some 280 million avocados for our favorite dips.

Also, more hamburgers are grilled than any other day but July 4th. I guess most of those in warm-weather areas.  Sunday is the biggest day of the year for those in the pizza business as some 12.5 million pies will be bought and eaten and we will wash it all down with about 52 million cases of beer.  By the way antacid sales on Monday will be up about 20%.

Of course there’s the TV commercials are around $5 million a pop, the halftime show with Lada Gaga and the crazy bets you can make including how long will it take Luke Bryan to sing the national anthem and how many times President Trump will tweet during the game.

Oh by the way I think the Atlanta Falcons will beat the New England Patriots
25-24.  After all there is a game to be played.
