TRENTON — It was a busy Halloween night on New Jersey's highways with at least two fatalities reported.

One person was killed and injured eight people injured in a crash on Route 88 in Lakewood in front of the entrance to the Ocean County Park around 9 p.m, according to Lakewood Police spokesman Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith.

Staffordsmith said 41 year old German Alonso Velasquez Gonzalez of Toms River was heading west on Route 88 around 8:40 p.m. and rearended a 2016 Nissan Sentra with his 2003 Nissan Altima. As he left the scene Staffordsmith said he sideswiped a 2003 Honda Civic heading east before driving head on into a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Staffordsmith.

Five people in the Cruz suffered non life threatening injuries including one broken leg, according to Staffordsmith. The driver of the Civic and two children were taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus as a precaution.

A crash on the southbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick killed a motorcyclist early Sunday morning. State Police spokesman Sgt. First Class Jeff Flynn said the motorcycle collided with a van south of Exit 9 for Route 18 around 1:40 a.m.

Flynn said the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation, and did not disclose the name of the deceased.

Another crash on the southbound side of 42 freeway in Gloucester Township closed two lanes near Route 168 for an investigation on Sunday morning

Traffic was also reported to be heavy Saturday night around the area of Six Flags Great Adventure on Route 537 approaching the park from Route 195 that prompted an alert from the Ocean County Sheriff's Department. The delays came on the last weekend of the park's annual Fright Fest festivities.

Park spokeswoman Kristin Fitzgerald would not disclose specific attendance figures but said it was a busy night, given the favorable weather and proximity to Halloween. The park was closed on because of the rain but will open on Monday and Tuesday for the final two nights of Fright Fest.

Flynn said three people were injured when one car rear ended another on Route 195 eastbound approaching exit 16 in Jackson for the park around 7:15 p.m.
