One of the largest events that draws people to the Jersey Shore during the shoulder season is the annual Ocean County Columbus Day Parade and Italian Festival. Now in it's 23rd year, the event will run from October 10th to October 12th in Seaside Heights and is about so much more than just marching bands and food vendors. Organizers say it's about Heritage and the time-honored ethics of hard work, respect, honesty, community and family ties.

This year, as they do every year, they've invited an international group of musicians and dancers named "Amixi de Boggiasco". The folkloric group is from the small town of Boggiasco, located between Genoa and Portofino, Italy, according to its press release.

"It's something that I think that makes this event here special," said Parade Committee Chairman Michael Blandina. "It's a Ocean County Columbus Day and Italian Festival but we bring in ethnic flare from Italy directly to the people here."

However, the success of the event, brings additional challenges. Blandina said they need more volunteers.

"There's always need during the parade for banner-holders, flag-holders, and there is help to set the thing up, running our booth to sell our raffles that weekend," he explained.

Blandina said their need to raise thousands of dollars to put on the event has also grown. So, he's making an appeal for business sponsors.

Blandina said "Amixi de Boggiasco" will be performing at various times during the weekend long event. Get the full schedule and event details at www.columbusnj.org. He said anyone wishing to volunteer or sponsor the event can call him at 732-477-6507.
