While it’s hard to call it good news I think just about everyone was relieved to officially hear that the boardwalk fire in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights was an accident.  Had it been intentionally set it would have made the tragedy and loss seem even greater.

Barring a collapse Toms River’s Todd Frazier is going to get his first taste of playoff baseball as a major leaguer this fall.  Frazier’s Cincinnati Reds are in very good position to earn at least a National League wild card spot as they have a 4 ½ game lead over Washington with just 10 games left to play.

After a horrid mid-season slump the 27 year old third baseman has picked it up recently and last night had two hits, an RBI, stolen base and run scored in a shutout of Houston.  Frazier’s batting average is up to .239 to go along with 16 homers and 69 RBI in his second full season.  Todd will return to his Toms River home when the season is over but he’s hoping it’s later than sooner.

Many New Jerseyans are excited that Super Bowl 48 will be held at MetLife Stadium on February 2nd, the first outdoor, cold weather Super Bowl.  Well it’s going to cost those attending the game a lot of money to freeze their fannies off.  The NFL announced Tuesday that the most expensive tickets for the game will cost $2,600 which is double the cost of the top ticket for the most recent Super Bowl in New Orleans.  9,000 premium seats make up the top priced ticket but for that you do get access to an indoor restaurant.

The next tier of tickets will cost $1500 compared to $950 in New Orleans.  For those budget-conscious fans the lowest-priced ticket is only $500 but you needed to enter a lottery for those and the deadline has passed.  30,000 fans put their name in a hat for that and the 1,000 lucky ones will be notified next month.

Actually the lucky ones are those like me who will watch the game from the comfort of their own home.  By the way the first Super Bowl was played in 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.  The top priced ticket was $12 and there were some 30,000 empty seats in the 93,000 seat stadium.  My how times have changed.
