As we saw once again last weekend in Seaside Park first-responders never hesitate in putting their lives on the line for us.  While the public was being moved away from what could have been a dangerous situation it was law enforcement, volunteer firemen, EMT’s and first aid squad members coming to the scene.  Fortunately tragedy was averted and calm was soon restored.

It is strictly a coincidence that this Sunday in South Seaside Park there will be a Block Party Fundraiser to support those who support others, in this case the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Department, Seaside Park Police PBA #182, Berkeley Township PBA #237 and the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad.

Organized in large part by Jerry Rotunda of Bum Rogers Crabhouse and Mike Smith of the Belvedere Motel the block party will take place under a large tent on 23rd Avenue, adjacent to Bums from noon-5p.m.  The event will feature music, beer and food which is being provided by Chef Mike’s ABG, Ebby’s Café Alfresco, PJ’s Place, Prime 13, 3 C’s Luncheonette, Capriccio’s by the Sea, Hemingway’s Cafe and of course Bum Rogers.

Everything from the tent to the food is being donated so all money raised will go to help the first-responders named, some of whom have suffered since Superstorm Sandy in terms of personnel and fundraising.  In the true spirit of neighbors helping neighbors Berkeley Township is donating a rescue truck to the Seaside Park Fire Department on Sunday and officials involved in that happening will be on hand as will the truck itself.

Tickets for Sunday’s Block Party are $20.00 in advance and available at Bums, Belvedere Motel, 3 C’s Luncheonette and the organizations benefitting from the five hour event…they will also be sold Sunday at the event itself for $25.00.  The weather forecast appears to be ideal Sunday for a good, old-fashioned block party and this one is for a great cause.
