LAKEWOOD - A firefighter was injured and two people were forced out of their home by an early morning fire in an Ocean County retirement community.

The Red Cross said they provided emergency assistance and temporary lodging after the fire on Edinburgh Lane in Lakewood's Leisure Village.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the single-story home, according to the Lakewood Scoop, which said a floor caved in and caused an ankle injury to a fire fighter.

Lakewood Police have not yet responded to a message seeking additional information.

The Ocean County Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the fire.

The fire is the 12th that the Red Cross said it has responded to around New Jersey in the past week.
