Fire erupts in Lakewood gas station

A fire in a gas station in one of Lakewood's busiest corridors sends smoke billowing in all directions and brings afternoon rush hour traffic to a crawl.

The Exxon station on Route 9 at County Line Road became the center of massive emergency response late this afternoon.

Police said that a car caught fire. They offered no details about whether it was occupied at the time, whether anyone was injured, or whether any other property was damaged.

A video captured by a passerby and forwarded to WOBM captures the inetnsity of the smoke and the volume of fire, police and first-aid apparatus that rushed to the spot.
