A fight between two parties being held at the Ramada Inn of Toms River is what sparked a shooting that left three people wounded.

No charges have been filed yet in the incident that took place just under an hour into  New Year's Day morning. Four or five people were seen climbing out of a second story hotel room window onto a roof after the shots rang out in a back area of the hotel on Route 9 at Route 70 on the Lakewood/Toms River border.

Two men age 25 and 28 from Lakewood and a 19-year-old Manchester man were hospitalized in the shooting; the 25-year-old remains hospitalized according to the Asbury Park Press, which reports their identities have not been revealed for their own safety.

 

Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little tells the newspaper  all involved in the shooting knew each other.  Little says the investigation is still active but would not say how many suspects are being sought.

One victim was flown via medical helicopter while a second victim was hospitalized via ambulance according to the Ocean County Police, Fire & & EMS Facebook page. Police say a third victim was taken to Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood by private vehicle.
