You now have until January 30th.  If your home or business suffered damage, you should contact them as soon as possible.  So far statewide, there have been close to 248,000 claims - just under 52,000 in Ocean and right around 32,000 in Monmouth.  Anyone who sits and procrastinates on this may have trouble getting the aid they need.

Robyn Smith with FEMA Media Relations says "just because we've extended the deadline doesn't mean you should wait till the end of January to get in touch with us.  We had a large influx of people in the beginning in the days and weeks after the storm.  Now that we are seven weeks in, the number of new filings is dwindling.  However, we know there are people out there who have to let us know what's happening."

Traffic at FEMA's disaster recovery centers has gone down a bit.  Smith tells us "the process of applying for disaster assistance is quite easy.  In fact, I was with one woman at our center who took about five minutes to do it.  When she was done, she was amazed at how quick it was."
