The FBI has issued a nationwide warning about a possible attack against law enforcement on Halloween night.

CBS News reports that according to the warning, members of a group known as the National Liberation Militia may be planning to dress up in Halloween costumes and create incidents that would cause a police response. Members who would also be carrying bricks and guns would then ambush police as part of what the group calls a "Halloween Revolt," the alert reportedly said.

"As part of the continuous dialogue with our law enforcement partners, the FBI routinely shares information about potential threats to better enable law enforcement to protect the communities they serve," the FBI wrote in a statement also quoted by CBS News. "We urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement."

Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said he is aware of the threat but Halloween and mischief night "always present added issues" to police. He said the negative attitude towards police has officers "heads on a swivel" and they too are aware of this and other threats made to law enforcement. There is "never room for complacency," said Della Fave.

The NYPD told the New York Post it is keeping an eye on the threat but unaware of New York specifically being targeted.
