ELIZABETH — A fallen wire caused a brush fire and delays along the Northeast Corridor on Thursday afternoon.

A catenary wire went down 4 miles west of Newark, according to Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert, leaving only two of four tracks available until the wire is repaired by engineering crews.

NJ Transit said the repair caused 30-minute delays between Rahway and Newark Airport in both directions. Westbound trains are operating express trains from Newark to Metropark, while westbound trains will run express from Newark to Woodbridge.

All four tracks were reopened around 1:30 p.m., according to Tolbert.

Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line riders traveling westbound to North Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Linden and Rahway were forced to exit at Metropark or Woodbridge and take an eastbound train.

NJ Transit Bus 62 will cross honor rail tickets to Newark Airport.
