Ex-shore heroin kingpin sentenced to 12 years

TRENTON - A dealer, whose name became synonymous with heroin traffic through Ocean and Monmouth Counties less than a decade ago, prepares to spend more than a decade in prison.

Robert "True" Britt, 45, of Asbury Park, was sentenced to 12 years, plus five years of probation monitoring after release, for his guilty plea to a conspiracy charge, according to the office of Acting New Jersey U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick.

The Britt-Young drug trafficking organization, as prosecutors called it, had Rufus Young as its nominal col-leader, and flourished at the shore between July 2010 and March 2014, said investigators who collared him and 21 others between March and May 2014.

Britt admitted organizing the distribution of one to three kilograms of heroin in his role of supervising the operation.

Fitzpatrick credited investigators of the FBI Red Bank resident office, under Special Agent in Charge Timothy Gallagher, for pursuing the case.

The government is represented in the case by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicholas Grippo and Brendan Day. Britt retained Fairfield attorney Alyssa A. Cimino for his defense.
