Driver under the influence makes splash landing at Pied Piper swim school

A Seaside Heights man, who as it turned out was driving under the influence, ended up crashing into the Pied Piper Swim School on Route 37 Saturday with his car going in the deep end of the pool.

Island Heights Police issued a statement announcing the arrest of 52-year old Robert Bjorklund who is charged with DUI and several motor vehicle violations.

Police arrived on scene around 5:17 pm and once on scene found Bjorklund sitting outside of a silver Nissan that had not only crashed into the building but ended up in the swimming pool.

The Island Heights First Aid Squad and the Island Heights Fire Company then joined Police on scene to treat the driver and take a look at the structural damage caused to the building.

Island Heights Police said that after Bjorklund was cleared by the Island Heights First Aid Squad and refusing treatment, officers continued the investigation and then placed the driver under arrest.

Bjorklund was processed and then released, per Johns Law, pending a future court date.

Island Heights Police Traffic Safety Officer Zappola led the on-scene investigation and was assisted by Detective Curtis, Ptl. Bellomy and Ptl. Mellott.
