IRVINGTON — A carjacking that began in Elizabeth ended with a person losing their life on the Garden State Parkway early Saturday.

State Police said the driver of a Nissan that had been reported carjacked from Elizabeth abandoned the vehicle on the Parkway and was then struck and killed by a 2017 Subaru Forester.

The collision happened around 1:50 a.m. in the southbound left lane near Exit 143 in Irvington, according to State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn.

The Nissan had been left in the left center lane on the northbound side.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead  at the scene, according to Flynn. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Flynn did not disclose the identity of the deceased nor their connection to the carjacking. Elizabeth Police did not return a request for comment Saturday morning.

The driver of the Subaru suffered minor injuries, according to Flynn.
