Colts Neck’s Jacquie Lee Makes ‘The Voice’ Finals
16-year-old Jacquie Lee from Colts Neck is one of three finalists on the NBC series “The Voice.”
She will be competing against Los Angeles musician Will Champlin in the season finale on Monday night. Lee is the youngest competitor on this season’s shows and has been on Christina Aguilera’s team while Champlin, who was saved from elimination twice this season, is on Adam Levine’s team.
The student from the Ranney School in Tinton Falls has stood out all season with strong performances and sales every week and even competing through illness around Thanksgiving.
Her performance of Sarah MacLachlan’s Angel on Monday’s show helped catapult her into the final as she landed at #8 on iTunes Top 10. “It’s a song of innocence and love and wanting to share that in a non-boastful way,” said coach Christina Aguilera. “It’s easy to hit all the high notes in the world but to sing in a non-boastful and sincere way … you showed the best vocal performance you have ever done on the show tonight.”
Her mom Denise has been with her in Los Angeles and she has increasing legions of fans, friends and family who each week have been gathering at MJ’s at the Buttonwood in Matawan to watch her Monday performances.
Jacquie had an offer to sing the National Anthem for the Jets at MetLife Stadium but because she had to stay in Los Angeles as she advanced on the show the performance has not yet happened.
“Despite all the talent she is incredibly grounded and has nerves of steel,” said Lou Russo, morning show host on 94-3 The Point who has had Lee in the studio as a guest and has been closely following the competition. “I get the impression she is having a great time and enjoying the ride.”
