An Whiting home sustains major damage from a house fire around 2 pm on Sunday leaving one cat fatally wounded and one golden retriever in need of treatment for possible smoke inhalation.

Manchester Police say the homeowners were not inside during the house fire on the 1800 block of Newark Avenue in the Roosevelt city section of the township.

When fire crews arrived the entire home was engulfed in flames.

JCP&L needed to cut the homes power because of fallen live electrical wires.

There was also a heavy smoke that kept officers from immediately entering the home according to Manchester firefighters.

The golden retriever was sent to Lakewood Emergency Vet and the homeowner was contacted by first responders and police.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
