Citing several reasons, Acropolis, surrounded by family and friends, announced he will not seek re-election this November. Acropolis has held the post since 2007. He plans to turn his focus to the Sandy recovery effort.

Acropolis says Sandy isn't a political football and he will finish his term which expires on December 31st. His term has been a wild one, coming off of a former corrupt mayor, the economic downturn, issues with unions, issues with employee paid benefits, two hurricanes and even a minor earthquake.

He did leave the door wide open to seeking a political office in the future, saying he would have an interest in county or state politics. There is even a chance he could run for office in the Township again.

Acropolis made no endorsements for who his successor should be. Some names that have been tossed around recently include Councilmen Dan Toth and Joseph Sangiovanni, who have both appeared before the party organization’s screening committee.
