UPDATE: Toms River Police Spokesman Ralph Stocco provided an update to Monday morning fire this afternoon.

Arriving patrol officers forced entry into the fully engulfed homes around 7:04 am and quickly forced entry into the first floor area to begin a search for anyone inside they were concerned were sleeping.

Their ended shortly after when they had to flee due to the heavy smoke but it was later determined nobody was in either house they checked.

Fire units from Ocean Beach, Toms River #1, Toms River #2, East Dover, Silverton, Lavallette, Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, and Point Beach all arrived to help bring the fire under control which it was by 8:14 am.

This mornings weather conditions became an issue for first responders due to the severity of the wind, rain, fog and near zero visibility.

The home at 106 Sea Gull Lane sustained extensive damage as did the adjacent property at 118 Sea Gull Lane.

What caused the fire is still unknown.

The investigation is being conducted by Toms River Detective Roger Hull along with Patrol Officer Ryan Parente.

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, Ocean County Prosecutors office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU were also on the scene today.

A developing story this morning out of Toms River, fire crews and police are on the scene of a structure fire at a couple adjoining homes on Seagull Lane in the Ortley Beach section.

Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy confirmed to WOBM News a fire is being tended to on Seagull Lane.

Toms River Police Spokesman Ralph Stocco said 106 Seagull Lane along with some neighboring home sustained some damage from the fire.

Weather conditions this morning are making things challenging this morning for crews who do remain on scene.

Stocco says the fire began at the home at 7:04 am and was under control by 8:14 am.

There are no injuries to report but further detail has yet to be released including the cause of the fire.
