THIS POST IS REGARDING THE 2014 BEACHWOOD FIREWORKS ON THE TOMS RIVER. IT DOES NOT REFLECT INFORMATION FOR THE 2016 FIREWORK DISPLAY.

The threat of thunderstorms and residual lingering dampness prompt Beachwood officials to move the borough's Independence Day fireworks spectacular back one day, to Saturday night at Beachwood Beach.

Skies are overcast with occasional rain. Despite gradual clearing tonight, conditions are likely not to dry out until the sun returns full strength Saturday.

"It's a safety issue," Borough Councilman Gerry Lacrosse told us this morning. "We held out hope for tonight, but the dampness would create a potentially volatile situation with the pyrotechnics."

The entire display, said Mayor Ron Roma, takes as many as 10 hours to assemble. The heat generated during launches requires clear, dry launch tubes.

Everyone attending the event will have great conditions - clear skies and most temperatures in the 60s Saturday night.
