‘Bama & The Barrier Islands
A little of this and a little of that for Tuesday.
For many Alabama’s 42-14 rout of Notre Dame in last night’s BCS National Title game provided a bit more sleep then they expected. The game did not kick off until 8:30 and you could have turned your TV’s off and gone to bed about an hour later because this one was over.
Bama scored on their first three possessions and led 21-0 just one play into the second quarter. The fight in the Irish was gone and the Crimson Tide rolled to their third national title in four years.
It was quite a night for a couple of high school basketball players who joined their school’s 1000 point clubs Monday. Southern Regional junior Mike Gesicki scored 24 points and topped the 1000 point mark in the Rams victory over Brick Memorial.
Gesicki is better known to many for his prowess on the football field and volleyball court but is likely to finish as one of the greatest basketball players in Rams history. On the girl’s side, Jackson Memorial’s Steph Mason collected the 1000th point of her career late in the Jaguars home win over Toms River North.
Mason, who is headed to Rider University, finished with a game-high 16 points for the Jaguars who welcomed back high-scoring Hannah Missry, who had suffered a lower leg injury during the WOBM Christmas Classic.
Governor Christie delivers his state of the state address in Trenton today and it’s expected to focus mainly on the post-Sandy recovery in New Jersey. While many might disagree with his politics few question his leadership qualities and Christie is receiving rave reviews for his ability to put New Jersey first in just about everything his says and does.
Barrier island residents in Seaside Heights, Toms River, Lavallette and Brick were able to spend Monday night in their homes….at least some of them. While yesterday was the day they could return to their homes many still have weeks and months of work and re-construction ahead of them before sleeping at the shore.
There is good news in that many businesses have re-opened and clearly I’ll have to get over to Klee’s in Seaside Heights very soon and enjoy a bar pie.
