When I turned on my phone Saturday morning I was greeted by several messages that at first I thought had to be a mistake. Twitter had exploded overnight with the news that Monmouth University had beaten UCLA in the college basketball opener for both teams.
27 Shore Conference teams begin the quest this weekend to win a state sectional football championship. For some just being in the NJSIAA playoffs is an accomplishment while for others anything less than hoisting a championship trophy in early December would be a major disappointment.
Sundays in the fall for me are pretty much a time to unwind after what’s usually been a hectic week and my favorite pastime is to be firmly entrenched in my favorite seat by 1 p.m. to watch the NFL Red Zone. However I can sometimes be persuaded to change the routine especially when I know the really nice fall days will soon be replaced by the reality of winter.

The date itself may not stand out like 9/11 or December 7th but clearly October 29th is one that thousands of Jersey Shore residents will likely never forget. It is the third anniversary of Hurricane or Superstorm Sandy striking our area with a fury whose impact can still be seen today and will so for years to come.
While it’s not always easy because of my schedule I make sure to attend at least one Penn State football game every fall and to keep that streak going it was off to Baltimore this past weekend where the Nittany Lions played Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium which is home of the NFL’s Ravens.
I’m going to touch on a few things this morning which starts of course with the New York Mets who are now just one win away from their first World Series in fifteen years and also mention another success for the Toms River South girls soccer team.
