Firing a gun near a group of people by Prospect and Mattison Avenues in Asbury Park on February 6 may land an 18-year old in jail for up to a decade.

Dyquan P. Young, 18, has been indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury on charges of second degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, second degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and third degree Hindering the Apprehension of Another.

Young is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township pending trial before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge David Bauman, P.J.Cr., according to the MC Prosecutors Office.

If convicted of the second degree weapons offenses, he's looking at five to ten years in state prison with a period of up to 42 months minimum or up to half the sentence imposed that must be served prior to becoming eligible for parole.

The third degree offense carries a state prison term of between three to five years.

On Sunday February 6, around 2:15 pm Asbury Park Police got a 9-1-1 call about shots fired on Prospect Avenue.

Their response didn't find Young initially but did collect some evidence.

Nobody was injured in the shooting incident.

The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner.

Young is represented by Carlos Diaz-Cobo, Esq., of New Brunswick.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
