Brick Police arrested an Asbury Park man on Saturday following a report of an attempted armed break in.

Residents of a Drum Point Road home called police when they heard what sounded like someone trying to get into their bedroom via a window and heard what they believed to be the sound of a gun being cocked. Police say earlier a man came to their door asking for help but the residents told him to go away.

A suspect matching a description of the man at the door was later spotted by Brick Police at a Wawa store on Drum Point Road. The man, Derrick D. Lewis, 28, of Asbury Park, fled his vehicle and led police on a foot chase before being taken into custody by officers behind the Osbornville Baptist Church. Police found a 380 caliber handgun in Lewis' car.

Lewis was arrested on with for burglary armed with a weapon, Illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose. He is being held at the Ocean County Jail on $300,000 bail.
