The regular crews will be on the job beginning tonight in Baltimore where the Ravens host the Browns.  The referees will be welcomed back with open arms by players, coaches and fans until the first bad call.

Hall of Fame basketball coach Bob Hurley will be tomorrow night’s honoree at the 15th Annual Fall Reception to benefit the St. Joseph’s Church Endowment Fund for Catholic education.  The reception will be held at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood and includes a cocktail hour, open bar and 3-course dinner.

Hurley’s legendary career as basketball coach at St. Anthony’s High School in Jersey City has been well-chronicled but he’s being saluted for his commitment and support of catholic education.  Tickets are still available for tomorrow night’s reception by calling (732) 349-0018, extension 2204.

Dr. Paul DeMartino is chairman of the reception committee and at his request I will be on hand to introduce Coach Hurley, which should be a lot of fun.  Maybe not for him but for me.

The latest Weather Channel forecast is telling us that we can expect above average temperatures in our area for the fall and early winter season.  Something to do with a weak El Nino but the good news is our temperatures should be milder than normal now thorough December.

Of course this is just a forecast and does not include January and February when many are telling us we’ll get some severe winter weather.  By the way, Thanksgiving is just 8 weeks from today.

The Central Regional School District will be inducting the undefeated 1971 football team into the school’s Hall of Fame on Friday, October 12th before the Golden Eagles game with Barnegat.   School officials are still looking to get in contact with many members of that team and those who have not received an invitation can contact the high school at (732) 269-1100.
