Andrea Still Affecting New Jersey With High Rip Current Risk

Tropical Storm Andrea is speeding away from New Jersey after dropping  3-4 inches of rain and leaving behind a high risk for rip currents at beaches.

Flood Warnings remain in effect for some parts of New Jersey for some minor flooding along the Raritan River, the Manasquan River,  Swimming River in Red Bank,  Raccoon Creek & Little Easy Run in Gloucester County.

Flood also remains on several roads around the state including Route 71 in Manasquan, Route 1 in Plainsboro and South Brunswick and on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights & Paramus. The afternoon commute on Friday was compounded by standing water and flooding on some major roadways.

Two fatal accidents are being blamed on the storm in Vineland and Elk according to the Star Ledger.

Life Threatening Rip Currents

There is a high risk for rip currents along the shore with heavy surf creating "life threatening" conditions with powerful swells and pounding waves.  for anyone entering the ocean.

Today should be a transitional day with clouds and sun and a high temperature around 80 with the chance of showers & thunderstorms. Sunday will be a sunny day with temperatures reaching 85.

After bringing rain, strong winds and even tornadoes to Florida, Andrea lost most of its tropical characteristics late Friday. Early Saturday, the storm was packing winds gusting up to 30 mph.

The storm was also blamed for one traffic-related death in Virginia.

Late Friday, the National Hurricane Center in Miami discontinued all tropical storm warnings, yet cautioned about possible coastal and localized flooding from New Jersey to New England.

The National Weather Service says the storm is expected to pick up speed through early Saturday, and could drop up to 5 inches of rain in New England before tapering off.
