WASHINGTON — The deaths of two people struck by an Amtrak train has led to suspension of Northeast Corridor service between Philadelphia and Washington.

Two people were fatally struck in the Northeast section of Washington just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert, by Amtrak train #175, a southbound train from Boston and New York headed for Union Station. In all, 121 passengers were on board.

DC Fire and EMS said an Amtrak employee was hospitalized after the incident.

Amtrak did not know when service would be restored.
