I went to see “The Great Gatsby” on Saturday and my review is incomplete.

That’s because the film sort of broke about three-quarters into it.  Lost sound a couple of times, then the picture went blank and after about 5-10 minutes we joined many others in leaving with free vouchers for a return.

As for what I saw I liked it but did not love it.  I just felt the whole thing was a bit disjointed and while dazzling at times it was over the top with the story getting lost in all the glitz.  Leonardo DiCaprio was perfect as Jay Gatsby and I will return to see what I missed but I’m not going to change my plans over the next few days to do so.

So I was watching the final moments of golf’s Players Championship Sunday and hoping for a Tiger Woods-Sergio Garcia playoff which would have been better drama then Gatsby as the two despise one another.

Sergio comes to the tee at the famed 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass tied with Tiger, who is playing one hole ahead of him.  He proceeds to hit two shots in the water on his way to a quadruple-bogey 7 and then on 18 also hit his tee shot into the water en route to a double-bogey.

Garcia was 13 under par for the first 70 holes but six over on the final two and finished in a tie for 8th place. Ouch!

For all the criticism Yankees manager Joe Girardi has received even his strongest critics have to agree that what he and the team have done so far this season is somewhat remarkable.  With injuries to many of their top players the Yanks’ 23-13 record is the second best in the major leagues. Meanwhile the Mets are worth watching only once every five days or when Matt Harvey pitches.

The semifinals of the Ocean County Baseball Tournament were postponed Saturday and will take place today.  Top-seeded Jackson Memorial will host rival Toms River South this afternoon while tonight surprising Monsignor Donovan visits Toms River North.

It was interesting that ESPN did a segment on Mother’s Day on why pro athletes always say “Hi Mom” when the camera is on them.  I would think part of it is that many were raised by their mothers in single parent homes because Dad was nowhere to be found.

Hey I think Sergio just hit another shot into the water.
