Chris Cartnick’s grand slam in the bottom of the 5th inning snapped a 6-6 tie and powered Holbrook Little League (Jackson) to a dramatic 10-6 victory over the Pennsylvania champion Upper Providence Little League in Bristol, Connecticut Wednesday afternoon. That victory sends Holbrook into Saturday’s (7pm) championship game of the Mid Atlantic Regional Tournament and just one win away from advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

It was a wild game between two teams who entered with 2-0 records in the tournament and it appeared Holbrook had taken control after scoring two runs in the 3rd to go ahead 5-2. However the team from Oaks, Pennsylvania scored four in the top of the 4th to grab a 6-5 lead only to have Holbrook tie it in the bottom of the inning.

It stayed that way until the Holbrook 5th when with two outs Cartnick hit his second home run of the game, this time a grand slam which turned out to be the game-winner. Cartnick has 7 official at-bats in the tournament and has homered three times. J.R. Osmond added to the ten-hit attack with a home run and two RBI’s…he has five hits in five official at-bats in Bristol.

Holbrook gets a couple of days off as tomorrow night Maryland faces Delaware in an elimination game and the winner of that one plays Pennsylvania Friday for a spot in Saturday’s championship against the team from Jackson.
