Plows, salt, sand, shovels and lots of bread and milk are standing by as central and north New Jersey endures another snow storm that will last into Sunday morning.

Snow has started intensify across New Jersey with rain falling roughly south of Interstate 195.

The snow is beginning to intensify and could drop up to an inch an hour in some areas before changing to sleet and freezing rain this evening in central and south and then in north Jersey before coming to an end early Sunday morning.

 

 

  • Monmouth, Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Warren, Sussex, Passic, Bergen and Hudson counties are under a Winter Weather Warning until 5 a.m. Sunday morning where the snow stays snow the longest  The snow is expected to fall the heaviest between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.at nearly one inche per hour before the changeover begins. Total accumulation will be 4-8 inches with 6-8" expected for northwest NJ.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer, Burlington, Gloucester, Camden and Salem counties where 1-3 inches are expected to fall. The snow will be heavy for a time in the afternoon before the changeover begins.
  • Coastal Monmouth along with Ocean, Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties are not under any advisory and less than inch of snow is expected in this area. Coastal flooding and high winds are not a concern with this storm.

The last of the precipitation in north Jersey should end early Sunday morning

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has activated 2,400 pieces of snow removal equipment across the state to battle winter according to the Star Ledger. Speeds have been reduced on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway in north Jersey.

About 40 percent of Newark's 900 flights have been cut according to the website FlightAware.com which reports 1 hour delays at JFK and 30 minute delays at LaGuardia.


 

The National Weather Service said 6 to 12 inches of snow are expected from Saturday to Sunday in New England. It said up to 14 inches are possible along the Maine coast but as little as 2 inches on Cape Cod.

Areas north and west of New York City and interior Pennsylvania could get 8 inches or more. About half a foot was forecast in parts of Ohio, where snow began falling overnight.
