Trenton Thunder fans may have witnessed history as it appears Major League Baseball has made up its mind concerning the punishment it plans to dole out to Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

A Rod finished up his rehabilitation assignment with the Yankees AA club in Trenton by walking all 4 times he was at bat and playing third base for seven innings. The Thunder went on to beat the Reading Phillies 7-5.

At a press conference following the game Rodriguez had no comment on any upcoming punishments from baseball. He told reporters his focus was "on playing baseball" and that he was looking forward to joining the Yankees in Chicago after a workout in the morning. "When the time is right I'll tell my full story," promised Rodriquez.

Two people familiar with the talks tell The Associated Press that MLB and the Yankees have turned down requests to meet with Rodriguez's camp and the union about the embattled star's expected drug penalty.

The overtures were made Saturday, two days before MLB was poised to hand Rodriguez a lengthy suspension for his part in the Biogenesis case.

The New York Post, Daily News and New York Times reported the discussions earlier Saturday.

There hasn't been any definite word on the severity of Rodriguez's looming penalty, with speculation ranging from a lifetime ban to a suspension through the 2014 season.
