More Snow Seen for NJ on Monday

Winter weather makes a return on Monday with the first of three potential snow and ice events, according to the National Weather Service.

Precipitation is predicted to start falling as rain across New Jersey in a line roughly along Interstate 195 and south after midnight Monday morning, mixing with snow during the morning commute as a Winter Weather Warn ing goes into effect and then turns to all snow. 4-6 inches of snow is expected to fall in this area.

A Winter Weather Weather Advisory for 3-5 inches for the rest of the state north of I-195.

The heavy, wet snow will be heaviest in all areas for several hours in the morning before ending in time for the afternoon commute. It could fall at the rate of one inch per hour for a time.

NJ appeals courts in Trenton & Newark have already canceled Monday's oral arguments in anticipation of the snow.

The weather for the Super Bowl,will turn out to be partly cloudy with increasing clouds. The temperature at kickoff for the game will be in the 40s.

The snow could cause flight delays and problems for those trying to leave the after following Sunday night's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. 102 flights have been canceled so far out of Newark Liberty for Monday and 136 from Philadelphia according to FlightAware.com.

Next up is a snow, ice and rain storm that begins Tuesday night with "the potential to be a significant icing event" with tree limbs falling onto power lines and ice on roads and sidewalks. National Weather Service meteorologist Gary Szatkowski tweets he is concerned about as much as a quarter-inch of ice forming before the wintry mix turns to rain by Wednesday, which will trigger a snow melt and possible flooding due to ice in many area rivers.

Next weekend could bring a snowstorm that has already created a social media stir with premature forecasts of large amounts of snow. "No one can forecast snow totals 10 days out," wrote Gary Szatkowski in the agency's statement on the week's storms.

Szatkowski has been an outspoken critic of the panic caused by the Facebook posts on his Twitter feed: "My 'thanks' to the completely irresponsible people who were just trying to be 'helpful' by posting a graphic of huge snowstorm affecting.The region 10 days out. So far, I've had to calm down two county EM's (emergency management officials) and one state EM who are being hit with questions about the big snowstorm' heading our way. Inducing public panic is NOT a public service. Knock it off."
