2nd Guilty Verdict Involving the Sexual Assault of an Ocean County Tween

An Ocean County jury finds a Manalapan man guilty of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl with a co-defendant in Lakewood and Jackson four years ago.

Dennis Conover, age 34, was convicted Wednesday, May 14th of multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child charges.

According to court records, Conover and co-defendant Mary Ellen Dean, age 29, of Lakewood, sexually assaulted the juvenile victim in the summer of 2010. Conover was arrested for the incidents on March 2, 2012.

The victim, who is now 16, testified during the trial that Conover and Dean participated in multiple sexual acts with her in Lakewood and Jackson Townships. However, Conover only acknowledged one incident during a statement he made to law enforcement officials.

Dean was convicted on similar charges in March and both are in the Ocean County Jail. According to the prosecutor's office their sentencing is pending an Avenel sex offenders evaluation.
