The BlueClaws and Phillies have announced the preliminary opening day roster which features outfielder Mickey Moniak, who was the first overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft and is the #2 rated prospect in the organization. The 18-year old Moniak batted .284 with 10 stolen bases and 28 RBI in just 46 games in the Gulf Coast League after being drafted following his high school career in Carlsbad, California. Three other players rated in the top 16 in the Phillies organization will join him in Lakewood to start the season. Pitchers Sixto Sanchez (#5) and Adonis Medina (#16) and second baseman Daniel Brito (#13) will be on manager Marty Malloy’s roster when the BlueClaws face the Intimidators on Thursday (7:05pm).

While Malloy will be spending his first season in the Phillies organization his coaches are quite familiar with Lakewood. Nelson Prada is back for his third season as hitting coach and Brian Sweeney returns for his second year as the pitching coach.

The BlueClaws play their first seven games on the road before their home opener on Thursday, April 13 at FirstEnergy Park against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Presented by Jenkinson’s Boardwalk, tickets are on sale by calling 732-901-7000 or by visiting the team’s website at blueclaws.com.
