The June 30 operation in the New Yorkshire section is one of the first salvos in Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina's "Enough Is Enough" Safe Streets initiative. Law enforcement personnel focused on subjects of active arrest warrants, driving offenses, and municipal ordinance violations.

Terence Brown, 44, of Burlington City, was apprehended on the strength of a parole violation warrant issued in North Carolina. Tyree Fryar, 20, and Maurice Harris, 43, both of Burlington City, and Henry Mobley, 41, of Edgewater Park, were arrested for active warrants, but also face drug possession charges, authorities said.

Javis Cephas, 34, Darnell Hawkins, 43, and Isreal Molina, 37, all of Burlington City, and Marcus Hubbard, 44, of Edgewater Park, were taken in on Burlington County Sheriff's warrants for alleged nonpayment of child support.

Arrests for municipal warrants were completed on DaJaquan Cole, 20, Tykwon Royal, 22, Leonard Starling, 37, Jamal Taylor, 46, Andre Washington, 35, and Korey Williams, 34, all of Burlington City; Treyvon Howard, 19, of Union; and Lazelle Betts, 37, of Willingboro.

Several defendants posted bail and obtained release. Others were retained in the Burlington County Jail.

Burlington City's police department was the first to seek additional officers in the program that Coffina unveiled in May. Police from other participating Burlington County towns are recruited for the detail, and costs are covered by proceeds seized in criminal arrests. Police from Evesham and Westampton, and detectives from the Prosecutor's Office, took part in the June 30 initiative.

Crediting the operation with helping to ensure a stress-free Independence Day weekend in the city, Coffina said that residents gave officers support and consideration. Police even received an offer of a home-cooked meal if they return.

"The City of Burlington Police Department will continue to work alongside our law enforcement and community partners to allow our residents to enjoy a peaceful environment," Burlington City Police Chief Alan Snow said in prepared remarks. "We will not rest and must remain committed to continuing our pro-active initiatives to deter violent crime in Burlington City."

"We are pleased that Burlington City police have taken advantage of this opportunity to increase their presence and secure a safe environment for the residents under their watch," Coffina said.

"The arrests in Burlington City demonstrate the effectiveness of this initiative in addressing specific problems that contribute to violent crimes and other behavior that poses a threat to the residents of our communities. This was the first of what we anticipate will be many successful operations that will improve the quality of life for the law-abiding citizens of Burlington County."

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
