In The Homestretch Of The Ocean Of Love Radiothon

Random thoughts and notes heading into the weekend.

Clearly a sign of the times was the announcement this week that after 80 years “Newsweek” will cease publication as a magazine but remain in business as a subscription only online publication.   The final issue of the magazine will be printed on December 31st and following that it will be a digital only format for those who want to read about world news.    “Newsweek” like many print publications has gone through years of declining circulation and advertising revenue.

If you drive with any regularity on Route 9 in Beachwood you have probably seen the sign at the intersection with Beachwood Boulevard that salutes the borough’s Citizen of the Year.  For the last year my name adorned that sign and while it was a wonderful honor you can’t imagine the amount of teasing I took as a result.

My time is clearly up because the sign has been changed.  Congratulations to the volunteers who make up the Beachwood Municipal Alliance as they were recently honored by Mayor & Council for their dedication to the community.  As a former member myself I know Geralynn Roma and the rest of her committee have worked very hard to make an impact and present programs to help young and old alike.

Today is the final day for 105.7 The Hawk’s Ocean of Love Billboard Radiothon.  On air personality Andy Chase from our sister station has been living on top of scaffolding in the Target/Lowe’s parking lot since Monday at 5pm with the goal of raising $105,700 by 6pm today for Ocean of Love.

He will start his final day needing just over $34,000 to make the goal so if you can stop by and drop off a donation or visit to make one on-line.

Special thanks to the football programs at both Toms River East and Toms River North for answering the call and helping out.  The East Raiders ran a Madden Tournament last week and donated $1160 at the billboard yesterday while the North Mariners contributed $500 to help children and their families dealing with cancer.  Well done boys!

Did I mention that the Yankees season ended Thursday as they were swept out of the playoffs by the Tigers?   I did now.
